YU Bowen (郁博文)

YU Bowen (郁博文) is the post-training lead for the Visual Model & Multimodal Interaction Team at ByteDance Seed, a role he assumed on March 12, 2026. Previously, he was an algorithm scientist at Alibaba Tongyi Laboratory and the post-training lead of the Qwen team, where he led development of the Qwen series Chat models that repeatedly ranked in the global top 10 on LMSYS Chatbot Arena.
He earned his Ph.D. from the Institute of Information Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2022, where he received the Chinese Academy of Sciences President's Award. He joined Alibaba DAMO Academy in 2022 through the 'Alibaba Star' campus recruitment program.
Yu has published over 50 papers at top-tier conferences including ICML, ICLR, and ACL, with 2,000+ citations. He served as Area Chair for ACL and EMNLP.
He departed Alibaba on March 4, 2026 along with his supervisor Lin Junyang, and was succeeded by Zhou Hao (formerly of Google DeepMind).
