ZHANG Peng (张鹏) is the CEO of Zhipu AI (智谱), the Chinese foundation model company that became one of the first publicly listed LLM companies when it IPO'd on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in January 2026. He co-founded Zhipu in 2019 with Wang Shaolan and others, spinning it out of Tsinghua University's Knowledge Engineering Lab (KEG).
Zhang joined Tsinghua in 1998, completing his undergraduate and master's degrees in Computer Science before earning his Ph.D. in 2018. Under his leadership, Zhipu built a full-stack model portfolio spanning language, multimodal systems, and AI agents, serving over 12,000 enterprise clients.
The company raised HK$4.35 billion in its IPO at a valuation close to $9 billion; the atlas's money view separately uses the later May 7, 2026 public-market mark of roughly HK$434.7 billion (~$56B).
