ZHOU Chang (周畅) leads multimodal interaction and world-models at ByteDance Seed, having joined in September/October 2024. Previously, he spent seven years at Alibaba (2017-2024) where he served as the technical lead for the Qwen large model series.
Under his leadership, Qwen grew from its April 2023 debut to become the world's most downloaded open-source model family, with over 20 million derivative models and 1 billion+ downloads on Hugging Face. In Qwen2 (June 2024), the model surpassed Llama 3-70B and topped the Hugging Face leaderboard within two hours.
At ByteDance, he was assigned to the 'Multimodal Interaction & World-Models' team within Seed, and later took over Seedream (image generation) and Seedance (video generation) after Yang Jianchao took leave and Jiashi Feng departed. He holds a Bachelor's from Fudan University and a Ph.D. from Peking University.
His reported compensation at ByteDance was an eight-figure annual package at level 4-2/5-1.
